60 years and counting

Friday afternoon we enjoyed an open house for my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. They are an awesome couple and I feel so lucky to have grown up so close to my grandparents. They have always been around for birthdays, other holidays and anytime you need a good meal:) My grandpa always gives his two cents about whatever the latest in your life is and Grandma is always there to understand whatever it is you are going through. They compliment each other very well. I give my Grandma credit for my clean freakism and my grandpa credit for my work ethic. They are very special to me and am so blessed to be able to spend the afternoon celebrating their marriage.

Christmas 2008

The Barnes family has enjoyed the last few days celebrating with family. Christmas Eve we spent at my Mom's house. We had an awesome dinner and opened great gifts. We exchange names and it is always fun to see who has who. We had a great time getting a photo of the girls and mom. I don't think you can ever have enough family pictures.

Christmas morning we enjoyed our first Christmas morning with Ethan. He loved to sit and stand on the presents. He was not much for unwrapping them but he sure did love to play with the toys after they were opened. He pushes everything around and it was hilarious to see him with his new blocks. It was a great morning.
We headed to Corey's side of the family Christmas Day afternoon. We enjoyed a great meal with his family and present time. The kids played great together and it was a nice afternoon. Corey's Dad always reads the Christmas story from Luke, which I find as an awesome tradition. What great memories!!

Eleven Months

Ethan loves to have his Dad push him around on his hippo. The hippo is supposed to be for Ethan and learning to walk but he prefers to go along for the ride. Its too funny, Corey pushes him all around the house and Ethan just enjoys the scenery. Christmas is here and the fact that Ethan's first birthday is four weeks away is scary!!!!

He is a "speed" crawler now and is pulling up on everything. He will take a few steps on the furniture but would prefer to crawl. He loves his blocks and loves to read. We probably read ten books a day, he just sits on my lap and listens. It is pretty awesome.

Corey and I are both looking forward to Christmas. We know he will probably like the boxes and paper better than the presents but will still be a fun time.

I hope everyone is doing well. We are praying for a safe and happy Christmas for everyone!!

Happy Birthday Corey!!!

Today is Corey's 31st birthday. He does not like to make a big deal out of birthdays but Ethan and are going to try to make it a big deal:) I don't think that its turning older, I just really think he could care less that he is older:)! So to make it a big deal we are making Lasagna and a birthday cake. Corey's favorites. I seriously have never made a cake on my own before but I think it will turn out tasty. I called the cake expert (Mom) and she gave me a few tips so that should help:)

While I was baking I filled up one side of the sink with soapy water and put Ethan on the other side so he could play in the water. He was soaking wet when he was all done but had a good time with it. I also let him lick the spatula when we were done mixing- he loved it!!!

Corey we are so thankful for you. You are a wonderful provider for our family in all different ways; financially, emotionally, and spiritually. You are a great husband and Dad and hope you have a great birthday!!!

Busy Busy Busy

It seems that life has gone into overdrive over the last two weeks. Last weekend I decided to start my Christmas shopping and have been panicked about it ever since. I was able to go out twice again this week and think one more trip and I will be DONE:)! I love shopping but something about having only two weeks to find that perfect gift freaks me out. It kind of snuck up on me this year but needless to say it all worked out and I am almost done.

Last weekend we headed up to celebrate Christmas with Corey's Moms side of the family. They rented a hall and it worked out perfect. The kids were able to run around and play while the adults had time to visit. It was snowing like crazy outside but we had a great turnout. Its amazing how family ends up all over and holidays bring you all back together.

Ethan has been busy getting into everything, pulling himself up, getting a few molars and being a huge blessing to my life. I am learning so much about him and me everyday. Its pretty awesome to see your children bring out your passion and love for things in a different way than before you had children.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a great Thanksgiving. I hope everyone else did as well. I was a terrible picture taker this weekend but here is the few photos I snapped.
On Thanksgiving we headed up to Corey's parents house for dinner. It was a wonderful day. We had an awesome feast and great fellowship.
Friday Corey and I spent most of the day cleaning, throwing out, re-arranging furniture and putting out Christmas decorations. I love having the Christmas tree up, it just puts me in the Christmas spirit. We did not go shopping on Black Friday this year. We were all still trying to fight these colds and just needed a day at home.
Saturday I headed to Mom's for annual chex mix day. I think we ended up with 33 gallons!! It was a great day of laughter and memory sharing.
It was truley a great weekend of family, fun, and great memories!!!

Baby Shower

Saturday we hosted Allison's baby shower at the BK club in Mishawaka. We had about 45 people attend which was a great turnout. We played a few games, ate good food and enjoyed all the baby gifts. One of the games was to guess how big around Alli's belly was with a piece of yarn. Our Grandma was the closest and their reaction is hilarious (bottom middle pic). Alli and Shane are very thankful for all of the gifts. I think they are all set and ready for the arrival. I can not believe its already Thanksgiving so I am sure January will be here before we know it! Congratulations Alli and Shane, we can not wait to meet him!

Best Friends

Today we babysat cousin Daniel while Carrie went on a field trip with Annabelle. Daniel is so easy going and just loves to play. Ethan and Daniel played really well together. They loved the spoons and spatulas in the kitchen. I was trying for a photo on the couch but they were either too interested in the remote or each other. We had a great day playing and hanging out. Thanks Carrie for letting us watch Daniel.

Tagged!!!!

I have been tagged by Addi.
Share 7 facts about yourself. Some random and some weird.
1.I am a very picky eater. Veggies and fruit do not go over well but you know either does meat so I guess I am a carb eating girl.
2. I love pickels. I even love to drink the juice but Corey thinks that it is bad for me so I have to drink it before he even knows the pickels are gone. I can usually finish a jar in a day or two if I am craving them.
3.I have three sisters. Two older and one younger. There is sixteen years between the oldest and the youngest but somehow I think we have manged to have close relationships.
4. I love a clean house. I just spent the majority of my day dusting, vacuuming, windexing, scrubbing, mopping but not because I have to but really I love it! It is the best feeling to go to bed knowing everything is "perfect".
5. I hate commercials on TV and the radio. Anytime a commercial comes on I am surfing to either find another show to watch or a song I like. Usually I am watching three shows at once!
6. When I was little I could fall asleep anywhere. The car, kitchen floor, other peoples house, serisously anywhere. Now I can barely fall asleep after a long day and I am exhausted. I just keep thinking, praying and planning.
7. I love God. I became a Christian at 18 years old and have been growing my walk with him ever since.

Now I am supposed to Tag 7 people but I do not know 7 people in the blogging world that have not done this so.....I am tagging:

Nine Month Pictures and Halloween

Last weekend we had our friend Addi come over and take some pictures for Ethan's ninth month, and I also wanted a few in his costume. Addi did a fantastic job and they are awesome pictures of Ethan. He kept wanting to have his binky or his hands in his mouth which can make for a hard time to take some pictures. These are just a few of the several great shots she took. My favorites are the basket and the one where his hand is on the pumpkin. I can not wait to get some printed and in a frame!! Thanks Addi for these memories!!

Congratulations Shane and Allison

On Friday afternoon Allison and Shane were married. They decided on a small ceremony at the courthouse with a small dinner at Rulli's. Alli looked so beautiful!!!!

Thursday night my sisters and I decorated the room using green accents. Carrie and Amy spent most of the time putting together this arch that was donated to the cause- it took them about an hour and it was well worth it. The arch made it look very special.

Friday morning my sisters and I met at the courthouse to decorate their car. It took us a minute to find their car because Shane used National City for a parking spot:) We decorated with writing on the car, a flag and some hearts. It was windy and chilly that day so we hung out in my car for a few minutes to get warm. Daniel and Ethan loved being outside of their car seats. They were too funny.

On Friday night we met back at Rullis for the wedding dinner party. It was a good time with family. Mom made the cake which turned out beautiful! I think Alli and Shane enjoyed this time and hopefully it will be a great "kickoff" to their marriage. They were headed to Chicago for the weekend for some shopping and to visit some of the museum's. I hope they had a great time. Alli and Shane-we are praying for your marriage and for God to unite you together.

Clean Up and Movin' Out

Before
After

One Day last week Ethan and I headed over to my Mom's to help Alli pack up to move to her new house. To say the least she did not inherit that clean freakism from me and we had our work cut out for us. It was a good day for Alli to get rid of all her "junk" and goodwill lots of clothes. I think we filled up a whole trash can and two leaf size bags for goodwill. A good cleaning of our houses, souls and hearts is always something that needs to be done. I can remember moving out of my Mom's house and moving in with Corey after we were married, it was hard. I had never been on my own before and it was a big transition. The thing is, you have to let go of some of those old memories and things in order for new ones to be made. Change is what you make of it in my opinion. We all have the choice to make change good or bad. I am hoping through this change in my extended family that I can remain supportive, loving, honest, and that God may guide me and be my side as we go through this change.

We are Mobile

video

Last Monday Ethan decided that he would finally crawl. He takes these fast little crawls, which are so cute. He has not discovered anything out of the living room yet! Soon he will be at my feet wherever I go! I think for now he just likes being able to get to the toys he wants.

Dorothy, The Cowardly Lion and a Giraffe

On Friday we headed to Mom's for our traditional Halloween night dinner. Mom made fantastic homemade pizza and we helped hand out candy to the little kids. She only had 30 trick or treaters (when we were young she would have over 100). Alli gave out handfuls to the little kids, the last kids came at 7:15 and thought we should give them what we had left! We did not opt for that and saved some for us:)! Mom did buy 325 pieces of candy this year but again we needed to save some for us!
Carrie made Annabelle and Daniel's costumes again this year. She does such a good job of getting it done and making them look so cute. Annabelle was Dorothy and she looked just the part. Hair braided and even the red slippers, thanks to her dad Kenny. Kenny hot glued sequins to the red slippers they had found at Walmart so it would be just like Dorothy. The things Daddy's do for their little girls!! Daniel was the cowardly lion and was so cute! Ethan was a giraffe and loved wearing his costume. It was a great evening!

Adventures in Babysitting

To say the least I have done my share of babysitting this week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I babysat my two nephews, Tyler 10 and Colson 6. To my surprise we had a great week and the boys were very good. The key is to plan your day and then there are not too many melt downs. The boys had a blast roller blading in our unfinished basement (great way to release some of that energy), playing outside and taking a bath in the whirlpool tub. Colson was the only one that wanted in on the tub but he played for almost 45 minutes and then feel asleep. He was hilarious in the tub, trying to swim and becoming bubble man! What more could a babysitter ask for!!! We also went to McDonald's on Thursday for a treat. My little sister Alli came over on Thursday and it was just a relief to know she was here with me. Thanks Alli!
Friday I babysat for a MOPS discussion group. There were 7 kids in all! Again to my suprise all the kids were so well behaved and played very good together. Unfortunatley Ethan did not want to play and was a little fussy but we made it through. I think next time I will bring someone with me, just knowing someone else will be there will be a huge relief. But we made it through a very busy week and am very thankful for the weekend!!!!

Random Phone Calls

In case any of you get any mysterious phone calls from the Barnes family it just might be our son! He loves the phone; pushing buttons, eating the phone and hanging up on people while on speaker phone. Peggy can verify these mysterious calls due to the fact that she was the first on Ethan's list to call! One day last week I noticed he had gotten into the phonebook and had Peggy's Cell but I did not think he called. Well Peggy called back noticing she had a missed call from us, which only verified that he DID call!! Sorry Peg!! So a lesson learned-the phone can not be used as a toy!!!

Nine Month Checkup

Ethan had his nine month checkup yesterday. He now weighs 18lbs 14 oz (20th%), 30 3/4in long (97th%) and his head is 46.5cm (80th%). I was a little disappointed with his weight, I wanted him to be able to move up to the next car seat. I think he would be much more content facing forward. I think I will wait a few weeks and than move him up even though he will not be the 22lbs. Overall it was a good visit-he is eating and sleeping well so what more could you ask for.

Its a crazy week in the Barnes household. I am babysitting my two nephews as they have fall break this week, fall festival is at church on Wed. night (I am in charge of the food), and of course Friday is Halloween and my Grandpa's birthday. Busy Busy! Hope everyone has a great week.

Birthday Party Times Two

Friday night we celebrated Amy's 30th birthday and Alli's 18th birthday. Mom hosted and had some fabulous homemade lasagna. For Amy's gift we bought 30 gifts for 30 years. I think it took her almost over an hour to open but it was so much fun to buy, wrap and watch her open.
Allison got a lot of nice gifts also- digital camera (Alli please don't break this one), two pair of shoes, clothes and a book.
All of the kids had a great time playing together and were good most of the night. It was a late evening and Colson had had enough, as you can see from the picture of him throwing a fit in the kitchen. Lots of fun things to look forward to as Ethan grows up:)!! It was a great evening. Happy Birthday Girls!!

Box of Fun

Ethan was having a ball playing with the box of his new booster seat. He was so serious acting like he was reading all about the booster. He was actually staying still long enough to take a few quick and cute pics.

Notice the top right up on all fours. He can now move the legs but forgets his arms and falls on his face:( Corey guesses this week we will have a crawler-only time will tell.

Nine Months

Wow Nine Months- Here are some pictures of my little stud:)!!! We do not go back to the doctor for two more weeks for a regular checkup but he is growing!!! No crawling yet but he does get on all fours and still goes backwards and in circles, its only a matter of time!

Hayride Fun

Ok so I only took 2 pictures at the hayride on Saturday- check out Addi's blog to see some great pictures. Thanks Addi for taking great ones. We had a great time at the hayride on Saturday that Adam and Mary hosted. We had so much good food and fellowship. Mary was a great hostess and had awesome games for the kids and adults. Ethan feel asleep on the hayride, well at the very end but woke up as soon as we got off the wagon. It was a great evening and will be looking forward to next year. Thanks Adam and Mary for a great night.

Lunch at Great Grandma and Grandpa Smith's

Today Ethan and I went to Great Grandma and Grandpa Smiths for lunch. Grandma called yesterday to invite us over so we could see the latest addition to the Smith family. Currently there are 10 great grandchildren ( 8 boys and 2 girls) and we have another boy due in January. Its a little different than how I grew up- there were 11 grandchildren (9 girls and 2 boys).

Now all these pictures are of Daniel and one with Ethan but he was the only one that would let me take pictures. He is pretty cute and loves for me to take his picture. Patrick and Kiersten were there but were too busy playing to snap a family photo. Aaron the latest addition was a sleepy head the whole time so sorry no pictures of him, I did not want to wake him. Its amazing too see the family grow and that we are able to see each other every once in awhile. Grandma made some amazing broccoli soup (which I actually liked) and some BBQ sandwiches. We had a great time visiting and will try to get back sooner to visit.

Standing with Support

We just got Ethan this cute little table with lots of activities on top. It has a book, shapes, colors, drum, piano and guitar. You can change the settings to have music play as you play or colors and shapes. Ethan loves the new toy but you have to stand to play. We have been just holding him up but Corey let go on Saturday and he supported himself- who knew?! I think Ethan was a little proud of himself as he gave a smile as soon as he knew he would not fall over. He is growing way to fast!!

Our Friend Luke

Saturday night Luke came over so that his Mom and Dad could have a date night. He is such a good baby with lots of smiles and tricks:) He has this cute little growl as his talk and can roll over very good. Ethan and Luke did not really notice each other too much except for these few pictures. As you can see from the middle picture Ethan just wanted to roll right over Luke! We had such a good time watching Luke. Peggy also came over to help babysit, she was unsure if we could handle the most laid back baby we know:) I am glad she decided to come over, it was a good time just hanging out. Can not wait until next time!

My little Chef

As most of you know I like things clean and tidy; and really do not want Ethan drooling all over the dishes. However, I have finally given in and let Ethan play with some tupperware. Of course I had to organize the tupperware cabinet first to see which unmatched pieces he could play with. Where do all those lids go anyways????I also gave him some spoons, measuring cups, spatula and a stainless steel pot (the pot was perfect for a drum). I always put him in the middle of the kitchen while I prepare dinner. Usually I give him his own toys, but tonight I gave in and he had a ball. I think he played with the spoons and bowls for about 35 min which was perfect timing to get dinner done. After a washing I am sure he can play with all these "toys" again!

Random

I have posted a bunch of random pictures from our life over the last two weeks or so. Its amazing how just two weeks ago Ethan was in a sleeveless shirt and now we have long pants on and long sleeve shirts. I am thankful for the change in weather, it is the best time of the year.
What a little man we have on our hands. He is growing so fast and so much fun to have around. I have taken quite a few pictures of Ethan and Corey and have shared a few. These are my favorites- Ethan on his shoulders (hard to believe he is big enough for that), playing together and of course napping together.
This past weekend we took a little road trip south of Indy to the outlet mall to do some much needed shopping. I think I was going through withdraw:)! We stayed two nights and it was a new adventure for the Barnes family. I think I packed enough for a week but oh well we had everything we needed! Ethan did great, the first night was a little rocky but we managed to get a few hours of sleep and the second night was just like home. We got lots of cute clothes for Ethan and I and also managed to get Corey a few needed items.
The other pictures of Ethan just playing at home. As you can see from the pictures everything was going into the mouth but this past weekend we FINALLY got the top two middle teeth to cut through. So we now have eight teeth in all. They are still kind of bothering him as they continue to come through. A frozen teether seems to help lots. He is rolling and scooting everywhere on his tummy but only backwards. I give it a few more weeks and he will learn to go forward. Kind of scary to think of him being mobile but I am sure I will survive.

The "Flare"

Here are some shots of our neighbors flare. They have added quite a bit this year and just had to share for hopefully the enjoyment of Scott:)! We now have a cemetery, haunted house, pumpkin, skull, a spider, lights all over the porch, hanging stew pots and a witch that laughs at the front door every time a noise is made! Corey went under cover to get these pictures. Can you just imagine the neighbors catching him?!

Pumpkin Patch

Posted by Picasa

Saturday we headed to the pumpkin patch to pick up a few pumpkins, mums, hay and straw. It was a beautiful morning. This is my favorite time of the year even though I know that it means winter is not too far off. Ethan had a good time picking out pumpkins and seeing the farm animals. At the end of our adventure I had to get some pics and he was not so hip on sitting on that hay as you can see from the pics but we made memories and thats what really counts.

Eight Months Already?!?

Ethan turned eight months last week! Its so hard to believe that he is eight months. Some girlfriends and I were talking about how small this part of their life is but how it consumes and impacts us so much. We worry about so many things like, is he getting enough to eat, is he sleeping the amount that he should, how should we put him to sleep, why is he not crawling, why is he not self feeding, is he big enough, is he too attached. All these things are important to their lives but not as important as the eternal investment that we are making on their lives each day. It has been great to experience this time of life with other girls so that we can rely on each other and help calm our worries. I am very grateful for each one of them. I am also grateful for family and friends who might not be going through this phase of life that also support me and my family. Thanks to each one of you!
An update on my cutie- we had a doctor visit last week and Ethan weighed in at 17lbs 10oz. I measured him about two weeks ago and he was almost 30 in long! Where does he get this height from? He also has six teeth, working on two more. These two are taking forever! He is rolling around and scooting backwards but not quite crawling yet. He laughs and smiles all the time. And for the first time tonight he said "Mama" now talk about melting your heart!!

Happy 1st Birthday Daniel

Ok its so hard to believe its been a whole year since we welcomed Daniel into the our lives. He is such a happy baby. He is walking all around, getting into everything. Saturday we headed to Carrie and Kenny's to celebrate his birthday. We had a great time watching him open gifts and eat that chocolate cake loaded with chocolate frosting (thanks Grandma Chris). He loved the cake and dove right in. He was too cute eating the cake, he almost finished the whole thing! Thanks Kenny and Carrie for having us all over and Happy Birthday Daniel!!!

Our weekend

Can you believe all the rain we got this weekend? Our reservoir behind our house filled up and one of our bright neighbors tried to put a small boat in it! I do not think this was very successful. I asked Corey how long he thought it would be there and he said until the water is gone. Crazy people!! Anyway it rained so much all weekend which made for some nice family and friend time indoors! Saturday we hung around the house and watched ND play a great game. As you can see by the pics Ethan is a true ND fan and helped cheer them onto victory. It was great not to have to be anywhere or do anything!
Sunday Addi and BK invited us over for some puzzle time for the girls and football for the boys. BK grilled out hamburgers and hot dogs despite the rain. After dinner we or should I say Anitra, Senica and Peggy attempted to put together the puzzle. Now I do have to give Addi some credit as she put two pieces together but for me I was no help. Tiffany and Peggy can verify that I have only helped put together one puzzle in my whole life and it was a pretty sorry attempt. Senica on the other hand is great at puzzles and completed the border with no problems! Even though I am terrible at this puzzle thing but it was great to hang out with friends.

Please Tickle me Mommy

Posted by Picasa

Ethan is starting to love peek a boo and to be tickled. I am so amazed at how little kids loved to be tickled. I think its awful to be tickled, just ask Corey how I feel about the tickling. I was playing peek a boo behind our bouncy and Ethan was just cracking up. He was laughing so hard and loud it was the cutest. He is such a happy baby most of the time and so fun to play with.

Say Cheese

Posted by Picasa

Ethan loves to be naked and gets so excited when we have an outfit change and I leave him in the diaper for awhile. He was just "chees'in" it up so of course I had to get a few pics. He finally understands that I want him to smile when I take a picture, so hopefully we will not have too many more blank stare pictures. I had sesame street on and I think it might have gotten his attention in the upper right corner- like hold on one second mom I gotta see this:) I think he is saying in the bottom right- who me? nope not me:)!

I love Ethan so much and am so glad that I am at home with him. He just makes my heart melt with those smiles. We had Ethan dedicated at church this weekend and chose a life verse for him. Corey and I picked Joshua 1:8-9 "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage do not be afraid nor be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Corey and I thought that this would be a great verse for Ethan to keep close by throughout life.

Tyler's 10th birthday!!!

Posted by Picasa
On Sunday we celebrated Tyler's 10th birthday, he officially turned ten on September 2nd. Its hard to believe he is ten years old!! Man how time can fly by. Aunt Alli made him an awesome Star Wars blanket that he loved- what a special gift. He also got the Mario Brothers video game that he wanted so bad. Amy was a great hostess and made fabulous homemade spaghetti (my favorite). Daniel was too cute with the paper and bows Tyler had left behind. He is such a ham! We had a great afternoon enjoying every one's company. Happy Birthday Tyler!!!
